GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – Gaston County is seeing its second confirmed case of rabies this year after a male kitten was found sick.
- Male kitten found in Bessemer City by veterinarian
- Animal tested positive for rabies
- This is the county's second confirmed case this year
According to Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement, a veterinarian found a 2-month-old kitten. After receiving the report on July 26, enforcement personnel investigated the incident and the kitten was impounded. The animal later tested positive for rabies at a lab in Raleigh.
They say county officials notified The Pet Hospital located in Bessemer City since that is where the kitten was initially treated.
The GCACE is also working with Cabarrus County Animal Control on the case since the pet owner lives in that county.
