CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Many jobs that require a degree or experience are becoming more accessible to inexperienced or diploma-less job hunters.

  • Companies are requiring less work experience and education
  • The amount of jobs asking for 3-plus years of experience dropped more than 5 percent in the last five years
  • The Wall Street Journal reports less than 10 percent of Bank of America's 7,500 job openings require a degree

Charlotte staffing agency Sherpa says it's seeing more businesses, "down skilling" because of the tight labor market; where companies are requiring less work experience and education.

Analytics company Burning Glass Technologies, says the amount of job openings requiring a degree fell more than 2 percent in the last five years. The amount asking for 3-plus years of experience dropped more than 5 percent in the same time.

“[Applicants] may or may not have a degree, they may or may not have checked all the boxes from a skill set standpoint,” Jenny Hudson of Sherpa said. “But those are things [employees] can learn quickly."
