NORTH CAROLINA -- Keeping cool this summer in the Tar Heel State is about to cost more.

  • The typical household will start seeing bills rise by about 84 cents per month
  • The changes are expected to affect nearly two million of Duke Energy's customers

The State Utilities Commission recently ordered that new rates for Duke Energy Carolinas customers can take effect starting Wednesday.

The typical household will start seeing bills rise by about 84 cents per month, with residential power bills expected to increase an extra 1.2 percent after four years.

Meanwhile, industrial and other customers will see their bills cut by an average of 1.6 percent to nearly four percent.

The changes are expected to affect nearly two million of Duke Energy's customers.
