RALEIGH -- The NC House has taken all funding off the table to potentially cancel or change the toll project for I-77.

  • Funding to modify or cancel the toll project for I-77 has been taken off the table.
  • Removal means there will be no money set aside for the project during this year's session.
  • Decision regarding plan expected by end of Summer.

The money would have come from surpluses in the state's highway fund and highway trust fund, and it would have been used to cover the costs to modify or cancel the project.

This removal means there will be no money set aside for the project during this year's session.

However, there is language approved in the state budget to allow the legislature to find funding should it be needed.

The governor said he does not want the legislature to insert itself into the process, instead he wants the secretary of transportation to have flexibility with how funds are spent.

A decision on plans regarding the I-77 project is expected by the end of summer.
