BOONE, N.C. -- The Watauga County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the identities of the two people who died after the house they were in collapsed last week.

  • A home in Boone collapsed after a landslide caused gas leak last week.
  • James and Audri Lanford died as a result of the collapse.
  • Landslide was result of heavy rain.

Authorities say James and Audri Lanford, both in their mid-sixties, died after a landslide caused a gas leak, which caused an explosion that destroyed their home on Pine Ridge Drive.

 

The Lanfords are remembered fondly by the community. Funeral arrangements have not been announced. 

The landslide was the result of heavy and continuous rainfall.
