MARION, N.C. – A week and a half after a Chihuahua was found dead in a draw string bag in the Catawba River, PETA has issued a $5,000 reward for information.

The group says the Chihuahua was between three and five years old and they believe the dog was alive when it was thrown into the river.

The dog was found by two friends out fishing on the water. It was wearing a floral collar and was in a pink camouflage bag. McDowell County sheriff’s deputies have been investigating, but don't have any leads at the moment.

PETA is hoping this reward pushes someone to come forward.

"Dogs feel pain and fear just like we do and this little dog must have suffered terribly inside the bag trying to escape to get out while she was drowning," PETA manager Marianne Bessey says.

If you have any information about who the dog belongs to, or what happened to her, you're asked to contact the McDowell County Sheriff's Office.
