MORGANTON, N.C. -- Money meant as a movie prop is being passed around Morganton as real cash.

Fake $100 bills have made their way to several local businesses in recent months.

The Morganton Department of Public Safety says they've seen it a lot more.

Police say the bills look and feel like real money but on the back, they say “motion picture use only” and people have tried using them without even knowing they are fake.

Authorities are searching for the person responsible.

"If you get caught and we can proved your trying to defraud the business its a felony charge it can even be a federal crime,” said Donny Dellinger with the Morganton Department of Public Safety.

If anyone has information on where these bills or the distributor you are asked to contact the Morganton Department of Public Safety.
