CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. -- A group in Cabarrus County is educating people on mental health and mental health awareness.

Saturday, people learned the signs and symptoms of common mental illnesses and how to make sure those with an illness get the help they need.

Rebecca Ulrich attended the training and said this is crucial because it could help save a life.

"It's going to affect you. I would encourage everyone to have at least some basic knowledge of what to do to help people in a crisis situation," Ulrich said. "Just like if you have some knowledge of CPR or some knowledge of how to stop bleeding, people are bleeding out, they're just doing it emotionally and being able to recognize that is so important."

Organizers said they plan to have a training session each month aimed at adults and teens so they can continue to raise awareness about mental health.
