PINEVILLE, N.C. - A bridge in Pineville is now named for a fallen volunteer firefighter.

Richard Sheltra died while fighting a three-alarm fire at a golf shop in 2016. 

The North Carolina Board of Transportation approved naming the South Polk Street Bridge over Little Sugar Creek in his honor.

A ceremony was held Wednesday morning which included his family members, as well as Pineville's mayor and fire chief.

Sheltra was 20 years old when he died.
