CHARLOTTE -- Some Charlotte-Mecklenburg students walked out of MLK Middle School, the Olympic Community of Schools and South Mecklenburg High on Friday morning to protest for immigrant rights and against President Trump.

Students said the protests were supposed to just be sit-ins but that others took them further.

Superintendent Ann Clark said officials wanted to allow the protests without letting them get out of hand.

At MLK, some students did leave campus and walk to Hidden Valley Elementary.

Officials said students who did not stay at their schools would be considered in violation of the student code of conduct.
