LEXINGTON, N.C. — A new dental practice has opened in Lexington. The owners, Dr. Kushan and Mansi Shah, decided to open their first practice, My Dentaville, here because the need for more dentists in the area was significantly high.

What You Need To Know

  • My Dentaville was started by Dr. Kushan Shah and his wife Mansi

  • The practice will be affordable for everyone, even if they don’t have insurance

  • Davidson County's patient-to-dentist ratio is 4,380-1

“We want to be for the people and for the patients, and that’s my Dentaville,” Kushan Shah said when explaining the meaning behind My Dentaville.

Shah and his wife opened their practice in Lexington because the dentist-to-patient ratio is high. According to County Health Rankings.org, Davidson County patient-to-dentist ratio is 4,380-1.

Shah knew from a young age he would be a dentist because of his grandmother. When he was younger, he says she was very quiet because she was missing teeth, but when she got them fixed, her personality changed.

“That definitely made my mind that whenever I grow up, I want to help people,” Shah said. "I want to bring that confidence and make that life more confident as well as more beautiful.”

In this community and in most rural communities 41% of people don’t regularly go to the dentist because the cost is too high according to Byte.com, and there aren’t many dental practices in the area.

However, the Shahs have put a system in place to help this problem.

“We have come up with something called ‘My Denta Care Dental Discount Plan’ for people who don't have any kind of dental insurance,” Shah said. “They can apply for the membership of the office, and if they have that, then we can try to be more cost effective or more affordable, because we want to try to give the discounts to them for all the dental procedures they're going to get.”

To make dental visit more enjoyable, patients can watch Netflix while getting teeth cleaned at My Dentaville.
