One man is believed to have been killed in a fire Sunday in Monroe.

Monroe Fire Department responded to the blaze at 238 Clements Road at around 7:40 p.m.

The state’s fire marshal’s office was also called, because Monroe firefighters believed that someone inside the residence had been killed, according to department of public safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

The remains of a deceased adult, believed to be Alan Grover, 86, who lived alone at the residence, were transported to the chief medical examiner’s office in Augusta, Moss said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Brooks, Jackson, and West Frankfort fire departments, Brooks Ambulance and Maine State Police assisted at the scene of the fire.
