ST. LOUIS — A total of 36,000 comic books were recently donated to St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) thanks to the district’s partner Nine PBS.

The “Drawn In” comic books feature animated stories set in a bustling Midwestern city and follow four kids who use problem-solving and literacy skills to save the world from cartoon mayhem.

Pre-K through third-grade students received a book and a mental wellness magnet, according to the school district’s Facebook post.

The comics were created by Lion Forge Animation, the Oscar-winning team behind “Hair Love.”

The collection also includes video shorts, print and digital comic books and online educational games.

“This collaboration aims to foster a love for reading among students,” the Facebook post states.

In January, SLPS launched its biggest reading initiative called “Literacy for the Lou.” The citywide program hopes to empower children, engage families, and unite the community.
