What's in a name? If you're looking for a place to get your next meal out, then consider stopping right off of Route 9 in Rhinebeck, where a newer restaurant whose name has more than one meaning is located.

"We're approaching five years this August. I've had restaurants in Rhinebeck previously, so I've been in the local eye for about 15 years now. My wife and I own the restaurant. The word local is kind of like a double entendre, if you will, for us because we are local, raised in Rhinebeck and we feature many local products," said Wes Dier, the owner and head chef.

While many restaurants these days claim the "farm to table" label, The Local goes the extra mile with some of their offerings.

"We find that the saying "Farm to table" is a little bit overused lately. However, we really live and breathe that sentiment. We have about 13 different farms that we feature on the menu. We also have an all domestic wine list, and only NYS beers. We have an on-site garden as well," said Dier.

The food and drink may be sourced locally, but the menu is influenced from abroad.

"My style of cooking is fresh, seasonal, sustainable. We're multi-international cuisine. We like to call it globally influenced and culturally diverse. We like to cook what we like to eat," said Dier.

With an open kitchen and friendly atmosphere, there's reason to believe your first visit won't be your last.

"We aim to please and we like to throw a party every night. So, we want leave them satisfied as far as what they've eaten, but feel like they've gotten a great value for the dollar. We want smiles. That's what we're looking after," said Dier.
