A weekend sweep of the Yankees ending with the Red Sox trading Devers to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

“Completely shocked," fan Steve Chapman said. "I walked out of the stadium. We were at the game last night. We saw Devers home run, and I got to the hotel and found out that he was traded.”

Fans have mixed emotions about Boston trading away the three-time all-star who signed a 10-year, $313.5-million contract in 20-23.

“I get it. I understand it. You know, baseball is a business," Chapman said. "And when you give someone the amount of money they gave Devers and you don't want to help the team, gotta move on.”

“We went into the shop along this street and I think the first thing I said was, ‘I wonder if the Devers jerseys on sale,’" fan Derek Steaker said. "And about two minutes later someone else walked in saying the same thing.”

“Honestly, what I thought about it was crazy. It was just crazy. It's like the Luka (Doncic) in the Lakers type," fan Manuel Ramirez said. "But you know what I'm saying? Like the type of trade right there. It's unbelievable. Unfixable. We whooped the Yankees, though, so we're good.”

Despite the weekend being great for the Red Sox record, now fans have to think about a future without Devers in Boston.

“Fans have a different connection with the players," Steaker said. "And the owners see it as a business move. I think it'll help our bullpen. And I don't think it will have much of a negative impact on our season this year. The way, Marcello's been playing, and some of the new guys that stepped in, I thought were really fun to watch.”

“The Red Sox right now, we're not going to the ‘chip," Ramirez said. "We're not getting the series.”

“I'm hoping we can make a push for October," Chapman said. "But you know, team is young, bright futures. So, let's just hopefully set some blocks that we can build on.”

And as Devers was the last remaining player from the Red Sox's 2018 World Series-winning team… fans are thankful for the good times.

“I appreciate the years he gave us," Chapman said said. "I appreciate what he's done for the program and the organization. But you know, at some point you got to part ways with players that don't want to help the organization.”

The Red Sox are scheduled to play the Giants in San Francisco this week, Friday to Sunday. And time will tell what Devers’ role on his new team will be.
