WORCESTER, Mass. - Doug Hannam was a giant for Ted Williams, Worcester and District 4 Little League, having served as a player, coach, umpire, president and Administrator for over 55 years, Doug passed away at his home in Worcester on May 31 and with his passing so many who he helped through the years with his tireless work for local Little League's lost a dear friend.  Doug was always about helping kids and making sure their experience in Little League was a good one and a safe one.  He prided himself on making local Little League fields safe and was a stickler for the rules, he brought a team from the Ted Williams Little League to Williamsport the site of the Little League World Series during the first year of the Urban Initiative program and was so proud that kids from his league got a chance to play there, he was brimming with pride when in 2002 the Jesse Burkett Little League All-Stars made it to the Little League World Series.  His family said that was one of the proudest moments of his life.  But those were the big stage moments, Doug took so much pride in the every day games and practices that thousands of kids from the Ted Williams Little League baseball and softball teams as well as all the baseball and softball leagues in District 4 (Worcester, West Boylston, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Holden, Lancaster, Harvard, Sterling, Boylston, Bolton, Clinton, and Berlin) got to experience in his over 50 years of service to kids and Little League, Doug Hannam never had to question if he made a difference in his lifetime, he only needed to drive by a baseball or softball field and see the joy on the faces of the kids, coaches, and parents, knowing his fingerprints were on so many great memories for families all over Central Mass.
