PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Community Access to the Arts (CATA) is a non-profit which provides arts programs for people with disabilities, and their biggest art show of the year, ‘I Am a Part of Art,’ is now open at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in Pittsfield.

The show features about 100 works of art, all created by students participating in one of CATA’s classes.

The theme of this year’s show is liberty, and some of the featured pieces include self-portraits, abstract art, and works focused on nature. All are available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the artist as a commission.

The annual show gives the artists a chance to showcase their work to a larger audience.

“Part of our mission is to share the work of our artists with the wider community,” said Jeff Gagnon, program manager at CATA. “And it’s really important for the community at large to see the artistic contributions that this community can have, and what potential is really there for them when they’re given the opportunity.”

The display at the Lichtenstein runs through July 31, and a second exhibition at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown opens on Saturday and runs through September 12.

There will also be a virtual exhibit on CATA’s website, launching later this month, and a virtual ‘Meet the Artists’ event on July 29.
