For more than 30 years, Dick Hoyt and his son, Rick, ran the Boston Marathon. Together they were "Team Hoyt."
Dick passed away Wednesday at the age of 80. His son, Russ, said his dad and brother inspired people with disabilities to do things others may think they can't.
Russ said it's one of the many legacies his dad will leave behind.
"People talk about him being their hero and an inspiration. People have said to us I was on the couch never going to leave and I was inspired by what your father did with your brother and now I actually have a healthy routine in my life. we saw him as somebody who inspired us. Some people can say their dad is their hero and i can say it and mean it" said Russ.
Kristine Biagiotti-Bridges and her daughter, Kayla, were inspired to run the Boston Marathon after becoming friends with the Hoyts.
"When Kayla wanted to run the marathon I said to Dick "I don’t know a marathon pushing Kayla 26 miles" and he’s like "What are you talking about? You can do it." And he really gave me that push over the edge. Helped me figure out a racing stroller for her for our endeavor" said Kristine.
Dick and rick ran their first marathon in 1980. Their last race was in 2014.
