Devin Cutugno may have trouble communicating through speech, but his friends say his actions speak much louder than words.

"Devin is probably one of the more determined and driven people that I know," said Joshua Zuckerberg, Devin's friend.

Cutugno was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when he was just 18 months old.

The neurological disorder affects muscle movement, coordination and balance.

More than 30 years later, Cutugno has a college degree under his belt and is now a writer.

His mother Donna says he's also found his voice through acts of kindness.

"He wants to give back and hopes that children can have the same start that he had," said Donna Cutugno, our Staten Islander of the Week.

That's why Cutugno and his mother organized a "Made in Staten Island" fundraiser last weekend at Flagship Brewery.

Nearly 40 local businesses and artists showcased dozens of handcrafted items made right here in the borough.

Devin has hosted the event several times over the last couple of years.

"Because he said that the community really doesn't get credit for all the creative things that we do," said Donna Cutugno.

All proceeds will go to a local preschool program at United Cerebral Palsy of New York City, or UCP of NYC.

Devin's mother says the organization was a lifeline while her son was growing up.

"Each week, they would come to my house and bring him an adaptive toy and that really helped him," said Donna Cutugno. "Creatively, it helped him develop motor skills."

UCP leaders say the Cutugnos' efforts will go a long way in supporting hundreds of young Staten Islanders with disabilities.

"We always need to purchase iPads and toys, adaptive toys, etc. to be able to service the children we have in the program," said Liz Voluz from UCP of NYC.

Devin's mother says her son wants to encourage others to follow his lead.

"Never give up just shoot for the stars," said Cutugno.

And so, for crafting new ways to pay it forward while inspiring others along the way, Devin and Donna Cutugno are our Staten Islanders of the Week.
