Many people across the southeastern United States reported seeing a fireball, or meteor, streak across the sky Wednesday night. The American Meteor Society received 190 reports of the meteor from Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Alabama. The most numerous reports came from the Carolinas.
A resident of Cornelius, North Carolina just outside of Charlotte even captured the meteor on a home security camera.

Fireball is a term used to described an especially bright meteor. According to the American Meteor Society, several thousand fireball meteors occur in the Earth's atmosphere everyday. However, most of them are never seen because they occur during the day, over the ocean, or over an uninhabited area.
