Some residents of the Triangle are hoping for a stretch of dry weather after slow moving thunderstorms produced flooding rains Saturday night. Some of the hardest hit areas were Raleigh, Cary, and Durham. Numerous road closures and even high water rescues were reported across the three cities. Other thunderstorms also produced flooding near Rocky Mount in Edgecombe County.
One of the typical trouble spots during heavy rain in Raleigh is Crabtree Creek, and it caused problems with Saturday's heavy rain. The creek flooded portions of parking lots and the parking deck around Crabtree Valley Mall. A section of Glenwood Avenue near the mall was closed. The flood gauge along Crabtree Creek near Glenwood Avenue recorded one of the five highest flood levels it has ever recorded.
One of the highest rainfall totals from the weekend was in Cary where a volunteer weather spotted measured 7.52" on Saturday. The majority of that fell within a few hours time Saturday night.

The Raleigh-Durham Airport officially measured 1.98" of rain on Saturday. Almost 8" of rain has fallen so far during the month of July at RDU. Month to date this is the wettest July so far on record at the airport.
Some parts of central North Carolina may add to the rainfall totals over the next few days. Isolated storms are possible in the area Monday afternoon with a higher chance for scattered storms expected Tuesday.
