A tornado warning was issued earlier in Dutchess County, as severe weather moved through the area. The storm caused damage in Poughkeepsie, causing some trees to fall on top of homes.

Dutchess County Emergency Management says no actual tornado was reported to the 911 center. They also say no injuries have been reported. But some local businesses were impacted from the storm.

"Whipped up out of nowhere," said BC Kitchen owner Kate McCormack. "We saw the rain, and then next thing we knew, all of the awnings went on a 90 degree angle."

McCormack says the high winds and rain came as a shock.

"I was afraid the hail was coming in underneath the doors, so it was a little nerve-racking," she said.

She closed her restaurant for the rest of the day, and she'll lose a bit of business with the holiday weekend, but she's glad her customers and employees are safe.

"If they're safe and they're happy, that's my concern," she said. "We'll make it up in the long run."

Other owners in the area are staying open to inform their customers of what happened during the storm.

"You know, we had to shut down, but we'll be back open tomorrow," said Beech Tree owner Aaron Foglietta.

Central Hudson reports that more than 2,600 customers lost power at one point during the storm.
