SAN ANTONIO — Protests sparked across the country as President Donald Trump orders to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain and deport undocumented immigrants ramped back up, including statewide in San Antonio, Houston and Dallas.

Hundreds gathered in Downtown San Antonio over the weekend for an event called “No To Mass Deportations - ICE Out Of San Antonio.” The protest in San Antonio kicked off at City Hall at 11 a.m. before demonstrators marched through the downtown streets.

The event comes after days of protests in California after Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops for protesters in Los Angeles. The protests over the weekend in Los Angeles involved clashes between protesters and law enforcement.

In response to the ICE escalations in California, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott took to X.

“An organized assault has been waged against federal law enforcement officials,” Abbott wrote. “It’s time to put an end to it, and allow fed officials to fully enforce the laws of the United States.”

The San Antonio demonstration also follows the recent arrests of immigrants as they have been showing up for court appearances at the San Antonio Immigration Court by ICE agents.
