AUSTIN, Texas — Texas continues to boast some of the fastest growing cities in America.
According to a new study from SmartAsset, multiple Texas cities saw some of the largest increases in total population over the course of a year. In fact, three of the top five cities that experienced the most population growth were in the Lone Star State. One Texas city even grew by over 12%.
SmartAsset’s study took data from the U.S. Census Bureau and looked at each city’s total population between 2022 and 2023 to compile the list.
While the top spot in the ranking went to Silver Springs, Maryland–which experienced a 12.86% increase in population–New Braunfels, Texas, followed close behind at 12.49%.
New Braunfels also boasted some other impressive statistics with a 21.96% increase in the working-age population, the highest percent increase in the nation. Looking at the past five years, the Central Texas city saw a 29.68% increase in population.
Another Maryland city took the third spot in the one-year population growth rankings, but two Texas cities followed close behind with an over 11% increase in total population–Georgetown and Atascocita.
Georgetown, which is a suburb of Austin, has been named in the past one of the fastest-growing suburbs in America.
SmartAsset found Georgetown experienced an 11.34% growth in population over the past year, while also seeing a 29.85% growth over the past five years.
Atascocita, located in Harris County northeast of Houston, saw an 11.03% increase in population in one year. Despite falling behind New Braunfels and Georgetown in the one-year growth category, Atascocita saw the second-most population growth of any city in America over the course of five years, with an eye-popping 38.56% increase in population.
Two other Texas cities made the top 15 in SmartAssets study. Conroe came in at No. 9 and Round Rock came in at No. 14.
