SAN ANTONIO — During a press conference, Superintendent Jaime Aquino said that all schools in San Antonio Independent School District will be closed through the week, to access what needs to be fixed in terms of heating and plumbing. The school district aims to reopen the schools on Jan. 22.
About 70% of these schools faced heating issues this week, which ultimately led to the closures. Aquino said that following the repairs, every campus will undergo thorough inspections before re-opening.
According to the San Antonio Independent School District's website, 30 of its schools were closed Wednesday “for repairs.”
School district officials originally announced Tuesday that 20 of its schools would be closed Wednesday, but that list continued to grow into Wednesday morning. The district spans 95 schools, so these closures make up almost one-third of the district’s buildings.
Campus administration, custodial staff and child nutrition services still reported to the school buildings, and curbside meals were provided to students from noon to 1 p.m.
