TOMBALL, Texas — A mother is in custody after allegedly stabbing her child to death, according to Harris County Sheriff's Office. A 5-year-old child on Friday was transported to a hospital in Tomball, a city just thirty miles north of Houston, after allegedly being cut or stabbed by her mother at Spring Creek Park, tweeted Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. The child was declared dead at the hospital.

Thirty-seven-year-old Melissa White Towne drove to a hospital emergency room Friday afternoon around 12:10 p.m., according to Sgt. Ben Beall.

Upon arrival, she notified hospital personnel that she had killed her daughter who was in her grey Jeep Cherokee. Her 5-year-old daughter was found wrapped in plastic and mesh bags. Towne’s daughter was unresponsive and had what appeared to be a laceration and possible ligature marks on her neck. Deputies went out to the park to see if they could find any sign of a homicide scene out there. They were not able to locate anything.

The mother admitted to killing her daughter and was booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of capital murder.
