AUSTIN, Texas  — Austin-Travis County EMS just before 1 p.m. Friday reported law enforcement and at least five ambulances responded to a “possible critical incident” at Ascension Seton Northwest Hospital in Austin.

Austin police responded to what they described as a report of shots fired. 

As of 3:48 p.m., the Austin Police Department declared the scene has been secured and the area is safe. They clarified that it was not an active shooter incident and there were no injuries. Police checked all floors and found no evidence of a shooter or shots fired. 

According to a statement provided to ATCEMS by the hospital, staff members and visitors heard a sound around noon that they thought could have been a gunshots. The hospital was locked down out of caution, and a code silver was issued. 

ATCEMS at 1:50 p.m. reported that "no patients have been located, treated or transported from this incident."

In addition, several road closures were in effect in the area and drivers were urged to find alternate routes. Those roads have since reopened to traffic.
