CEDAR HILL, Texas — Tavion Vaughns is one of the rising baseball stars in the state of Texas. He is no stranger to the spotlight. In fact, he embraces it because, to him, baseball is all about one thing: having fun. It’s very rare you’ll see another player smile more than he does.

“When that school bell rings, that’s my favorite part of my day because that’s when I know it’s baseball time,” Vaughns said. “Just being able to come out here and play the game every day and have the opportunity to have fun. That’s what it’s all about.”

Everything is more fun when you’re playing well, which is something Vaughns excels at, especially at the plate.

“I think at 7 years old. Yeah, that’s when I hit my first bomb,” Vaughns said, recounting his first home run. “It was on the middle school field too, which was pretty big for me at the time. That’s when I knew I had a chance to be good at this game.”

His talent stems from the woman who showed him how to play the game at a very young age.

“My mom introduced me to baseball,” he said. “She was a big softball player. She actually played at Cedar Hill back in the day. She was really good then.”

Vaughns proved he was good enough to play at the next level after he caught the attention of the Oklahoma Sooners. He committed in November of 2021.

“So [Oklahoma fans] were asking us if we were recruits and we were like, yeah for baseball. Then they said they are going to be happy to see us next year,” Vaughns said. “The Sooners are already cheering us on and spreading positivity. Just being in that town, it felt like home and I loved it there.”

Vaughns is also getting legitimate looks from the professional level. He hasn’t decided on which route he’ll take yet, but he’s elated his name is floating around Major League Baseball draft boards.

“My MLB dream started young,” he said. “Just knowing I’ve worked hard to get here and to have my name be talked about in the draft, that’s all such a blessing.”
