AUSTIN, Texas — Addison Leschber has a certain type of pride.

It's the type of pride you get from growing up in a small town like Thrall, Texas.

“Everybody around me made me who I am," Leschber said.

It's the type of pride she'll be taking to the Division 1 level — pride that's on display during every pitch of every game on the softball field.

“This is what I love. This is what I’m passionate about," said Leschber, who's already been named All-State twice during her prep softball career.

The senior has also lettered in five different varsity sports during her high school career. During the spring season, she pulls double duty. She runs relays and throws the discus for Thrall's track and field team, while still excelling on the softball diamond.

“It kept me active and it kept me in shape. It kept me appreciating what I have here," Leschber said. “There's so much to do, but it's so fun. It's totally worth it. It's totally worth meeting all these people and playing with different teammates.”

Leschber brings the energy and intensity that rubs off on everyone in every sport.

“There could be so much worse going on in my life right now," Leschber said. "Just the fact that I'm able to play this game keeps me going. That keeps me motivated. That keeps me wanting to do more.”

More for her teammates. More for her community.

“She wants to succeed and she wants everyone else to succeed with her," said Thrall softball coach Joan Sladek. "There's so many students that have so much respect for her because of her leadership."

Sladek has lived in Thrall for most of her life, watching Leschber grow up.

"Whatever she does she will be successful because of her attitude, pride and self-being," Sladek said.

These are traits that Leschber will take to the University of Minnesota softball team next season, along with the pride of her entire community.

"The respect I've gotten from these people, the support they've given me and all the love they've given me, I'll take that up there," said Leschber.
