AUSTIN, Texas — Citing the Biden administration’s plan to end Title 42, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Wednesday announced additional measures he plans to add to Operation Lone Star.

One of the more drastic plans Abbott announced during a press conference Wednesday is the rental of charter buses to take migrants to Washington D.C.

What You Need To Know

  • At a press conference Wednesday, Gov. Greg Abbott announced plans to send migrants to Washington D.C. where "the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people"

  • Other plans include enhanced safety inspections of commercial vehicles coming through the Mexico border

  • Abbott also announced the deployment of boat blockades and razor wires to deter migrants from low water crossings along the Rio Grande River

  • Title 42 is the directive that prohibits migrants from coming into the county, even if they plan to apply for asylum.

“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration to Washington D.C.,” Abbott said.” We are sending them to the United States Capitol, where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border."

Other measures Abbott announced include a zero tolerance policy for unsafe vehicles for smuggling immigrants.

“Cartels use vehicles, many of them dangerous commercial trucks to smuggle immigrants, deadly fentanyl, and other illegal cargo into Texas and onto roadways,” Abbott said. “Effective immediately, the Texas Department of Public Safety will conduct enhance safety inspections of vehicles as they cross the international points of entry into Texas.”

While he says this will slow down traffic at the border, Abbott said it’s a byproduct of the cartels crossing the border.

Abbott also announced the deployment of boat blockades and razor wires to deter migrants from low water crossings along the Rio Grande River. The first phase of mass migration rehearsals are scheduled to start April 7. The border region will also be lit in prominent smuggling areas to detect border crossings.

This is Stage 1 of a two-part process and more announcements are coming next week.
