TEXAS — The Texas Rent Relief Program has been helping residents behind on rent and utility bills due to COVID-19 with emergency funds.

However, Texas Rent Relief recently announced that total requests for assistance now exceed available funds, and as a result its application portal will close at 5 p.m. Friday.

You can still apply for assistance between now and then but there is no guarantee you will receive it.

In order to qualify, you must start an application prior to the deadline. Those who start one prior to 5 p.m. Friday will have 21 days to complete it.

If you started an application Texas Rent Relief will attempt to contact you three times over the 21 days before declaring your application inactive. After that, you will not be able to submit an application.

Submitted applications will continue to be processed until funds run out.

If more funding becomes available in the future, submitted applications will be considered.

For alternative assistance, you are asked to visit the Help for Texans website or call 211 Texas.
