TEXAS —Every year, Travel + Leisure magazine leaves it to its readers to choose the most desirable locations in the world by a vote. Called the World’s Best Awards, the voting took place between Jan. 11 and May 10 this year and among the categories is a list ranking what votes determined are the top 15 travel destinations in the U.S.

Three of the 15 are right here in Texas.

Cities were ranked based on sights and landmarks, friendliness, cuisine and overall value.

San Antonio ranked the highest at sixth, followed by Fort Worth at 12 and Austin at 13.

The annual survey inquires about readers’ travel experiences around the world, asking them to share their opinions on top cities, spas, airlines and more.

Southern cities continue to dominate the list, due to the southern hospitality, food and architecture. Charleston, South Carolina, topped the list at No. 1 for the ninth year in a row.

Other cities on the list include Savannah, Georgia (3); New York, New York (5); Honolulu, Hawaii (10); and Nashville, Tennessee (11).
