TEXAS — Texas lawmakers are looking to ban the practice of using hypnosis to investigate crimes. It comes after an investigation by the Dallas Morning News exposed how law enforcement officers have hypnotized thousands of crime witnesses and victims in an effort to refresh their memories and gain new leads.

Experts say hypnosis is not a viable tool to use in criminal investigations. But a Morning News analysis found Texas law enforcement used the method nearly 1,800 times over 40 years. It's helped send more than 50 men and women to prison. 

Now, legislation making its way through the Capitol would ban using evidence gleaned from hypnosis from being introduced as evidence in a criminal trial.
