AUSTIN, Texas -- Due to the significant flooding in Southeastern Texas, the Humane Society of Southeast Texas has asked Austin Pets Alive! to help take in some of their dog population to prepare for an anticipated influx of displaced and stray dogs.

The HSSET takes in animals from 13 municipal shelters, many of which were affected by Tropical Storm Imelda.

Luckily the main shelter sustained minimal damage and all of the animals were safe in their kennels.

By transferring dogs who are adoption-ready to Austin Pets Alive!, the HSSET is able to open up their kennels to animals from small shelters who were already operating at capacity, as well as helping out the public who have been displaced.

How to help:

Austin residents that are able to foster a dog are asked to commit by 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 22. Those interested are encouraged to view the HSSET website for available dogs, and then to fill out the APA! Dog Foster application. Donations can be made online at the Austin Pets Alive! website and the Humane Society of Southeast Texas website.
