AUSTIN, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott announced that he's deploying 1,000 National Guard troops to the Texas border.
- The troops will provide additional support
- Federal government will pay for the additional troops
The additional troops will support the troops that are already at Texas’s southern border. The troops will provide assistance at temporary holding facilities in both the Rio Grande Valley and El Paso, as well as ports of entry.
During a press conference on Friday, Governor Abbott said the actions are necessary because Congress has failed to do its job in fixing the problem of droves of people illegally entering the U.S. at the border.
Governor Abbott said the federal government will pay for the temporary surge of troops at the border.
