LAREDO, Texas – On Monday the City of Laredo is planning on vaccinating 5,000 people in a single day.

The city set up 25 distribution sites across Webb County and plans to prioritize people in Phase 1A and 1B categories. People getting vaccinated must have pre-registered in advance.

Last week the city asked the state to begin sending 10,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses a week, saying if approved those will be used as first dose inoculations.

As of Sunday, Laredo had a hospitalization rate of 42.94% with 75 people in area ICUs. The area has seen over 40,000 confirmed positive cases so far, with 1,690 active cases.
