DALLAS — Detectives in a North Texas community continue to look for clues in a four-year-old homicide case that's still unsolved. The deadly stabbing of 45-year-old Missy Bevers happened inside Creekside Church, which sits about 30 minutes south of Dallas.

  • Woman raises $2000 for a billboard to help find Missy Bevers' killer

  • She was killed in a church four years ago where she was supposed to teach a workout class

  • Surveillance video shows a person inside the church wearing SWAT gear around the time officers think Bevers was killed

Churches are usually places of peace, but at the church where Bevers' life was taken, it’s a place that brings a lot of pain for her family and friends. While it seems like detectives are at a dead end trying to find who is responsible, friends of Bevers are trying to stop the case from going cold. Renae Rodden says she wants to help figure things out, and is heavily invested in finding Bevers' killer. The two women worked together before becoming friends.

“I don’t think there’s ever going to be a time where I don’t think about her,” said Rodden.

Four years ago, Midlothian Police put out a surveillance video that shows a person inside the church wearing SWAT gear right around the time officers think Bevers was stabbed to death. She was at the church leading a workout class that day. Police say there’s a slim chance the person in the video is a real police officer. With all that information, Rodden often comes to the church to look for any extra clues.

“This is the door where they broke in from and I think you can actually tell,” said Rodden as she walked around the church.

The thought of Bevers' case turning cold and the killer never being caught consumes her.

“I’ve tried to stop, and I just can’t give it up,” she added.

That’s why a billboard that reads “Help Find Her Killer! Who Murdered Missy Bevers?” now stands salong State Highway 287, not far from the church. Rodden raised $2,000 from people who are also familiar with the case, including Crime Stoppers of Ellis County

Shari Phillips is on the executive board for Crime Stoppers. She says it was a no-brainer for board members to hand over the money to Rodden.

“We don’t normally have crimes like this that happen in our community, so this is a big deal for our community and we would really like to see it get solved,” said Phillips.

All of the work Rodden is doing is her way of making sure the community keeps an eye out for anyone who seems suspicious, and doesn’t forget what happened to her friend.
