TEXAS – Most Texas music venues have remained closed for months now because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, forcing many to permanently close their doors. But as those that remain look for new sources of revenue, the Texas Music Office (TMO) is suggesting they look to the film industry.

What You Need To Know

  • Many venues are struggling during the pandemic
  • Texas agency suggests music venues become film locations

  • Film commission looking for locations that allow social distancing

In this month’s newsletter, the TMO explains the Texas Film Commission (TFC) hosts a database for potential filming locations and it's currently looking for new submissions.

Because of the pandemic, it's also looking for cast-holding locations and basecamps for production set-ups since there is a greater need for spaces that can accommodate social distancing.

“Music venues that are not currently open may be able to benefit from the income that a film/TV crew could provide during shooting,” the newsletter reads.

According to the TFC’s website, its database of locations is free to submit to and the agency provides a guide with not only how to list a property, but how to “maximize your location’s potential.”

Venues interested in submitting their location have to send photos of their property as well as contact information and an address.

If venues are selected for a film, TFC has staff on hand that can help answer questions any venues may have.
