  • He also threw for 269 yards and a score

  • UTSA will host Middle Tennessee St. this Friday

“We played hard and whenever you can win at any level you have to celebrate it, so we are going to celebrate being 2-0 and then get back to work to play on Friday,” said UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor

For the second straight game, the UTSA offense was led by junior quarterback Frank Harris. Harris had 104 yards rushing with 2 TD runs. He also threw for 269 yards and a score.

“He was instrumental tonight, made plays on his feet, got down when he was supposed to,” said Traylor.

Harris has been waiting a long time to return to this level of play. He was a standout in high school at Clemens and had wow moments every time he took the field. Late in his senior season though, he tore his ACL and has basically been battling injuries ever since. Harris redshirted his first year at UTSA after that injury in high school. As he prepared for the 2018 season, he tore his other ACL in spring practice and had to miss that entire season. Last year he was finally healthy to start the 2019 season and earned the quarterback job. However, just a few games into the season he suffered a shoulder injury and was out again.

“It is really amazing how hard he worked to get in the spot now and keep trusting himself, keep trusting the coaches and keep trusting God,” said UTSA cornerback Tariq Woolen. “He is really a hard-working guy, and I am happy to see him doing what he does now.”

This season UTSA has scored eight offensive touchdowns and Harris has been a part of seven of those. He has five touchdown runs and two touchdown passes in the two wins. He’s starting to realize his potential on the field again.

“He has given me the green light to go out there and have fun. Coach Traylor, as well, does not let us play timid. We go out there and have fun,” says Harris “I give all of the credit to them. I don’t feel any stress. I think none of the guys do. We go out there and have fun with our brothers.”

Harris and UTSA will try to make it 3-0 when they host Middle Tennessee St. this Friday night. The Roadrunners were originally scheduled to play Memphis
