FRISCO, Texas — Frisco father of three Joseph Mauro said he does not support the recent public pushes to defund the police, because the police keep his family safe.

What You Need To Know

  • Hundreds of people participated

“I believe in law and order. I understand people are upset. Do I think there’s a lot of bad apples wearing a uniform? Absolutely yes,” Mauro said. “Do I think they need to be held accountable? Absolutely yes.”

Mauro came up with the idea to do a parade in show of support for law enforcement. He posted his idea on Facebook, and the idea grew. Hundreds of neighbors wanted to participate.

On the day of the parade, the line of cars included tractor-trailers, families, trucks and food trucks, all in an effort to show police officers they are appreciated.

“This isn’t about race, this isn’t about politics. This isn’t about anything but saying thank you, we need you guys, we appreciate what you do, and we know that it’s hard. That’s all this is about.”

Frisco’s Chief of Police asked all of the staff to go outside and watch. There were also officers from surrounding communities, like Celina.

“When you have a good community supporting you, it makes the job better,” said Chase Guidera of the Celina Police Department.

The Frisco Fire Department also joined in the parade, waving to fellow first responders.

After the parade, everyone parked at Frisco High School, where Frisco’s chief made a brief speech.
