The cemetery, which is located in Killeen, is one of four veteran’s cemeteries in Texas operated by the state. It also happens to be the largest at 174 acres and the capacity for 50,000 burial plots.

On Monday, May 25, the Texas Veterans Land Board is hosting a virtual ceremony on Facebook live that will pay tribute to fallen Texas veterans.

The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day and will feature remarks from Ret. 4-Star Admiral William McRaven and Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush.

There will also be a wreath laying ceremony and a performance of “Taps.”

Texas veterans’ cemeteries will be open for visitation on Memorial Day weekend but people are encouraged to practice social distancing or attend the virtual ceremony. Veterans Land Board offices though remain closed.

The Texas cemeteries won’t be the only ones open this weekend, 142 cemeteries maintained by the VA will also be open for visitation.
