SAN ANTONIO — Although the San Antonio Botanical Garden is temporarily closed during the COVID-19 pandemic it is offering #BloomsToYou, which feature children's lessons, recipes and videos of the garden.

There are still some essential workers still on the job, like Scott Litchke.

"It's really an honor, I love to do it. It's a great place to be out in nature, fresh air and working with plants," Litchke a senior horticulturist, said.

He's been with the garden for almost 30 years, and is continuing his work in a small plot that grows vegetables for the community.

The children’s vegetable garden is meant for kids to come and pick their own veggies. The program is on hold and the fresh produce is now being donated to the San Antonio Food Policy Council to help families impacted by COVID-19.

Some of the vegetables include kale, lettuce, cabbage, celery, leeks and kohlrabi.

"You people be safe out there and I hope to see you soon," said Litchke.
