SAN ANTONIO — As COVID-19 continues to impact the world, one of Texas’ iconic landmarks is closing its doors.

On Monday, the Alamo tweeted it will be closed to the public due to updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which recommends gatherings of 50 or more people should be canceled or postponed.

At a press conference, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg issued Public Health Emergency Number 3, prohibiting gatherings of 50 or more people. Texas currently has 57 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across 15 counties.

Several events across the city and surrounding areas have either been canceled, closed or postponed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
