SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Fire Department was called out to a liquid spill on a bus near Rittiman Road and Cape Cod Friday evening.

  • People said their eyes were burning
  • Authorities testing substance
  • Eye irritation was minor

According to the department, people were complaining of their eyes burning which caused the bus to pull over.

A hazmat team also responded and tested the substance, said be a small spill of 16 ounces, and will not endanger the public. They reported that no chemical found and everything dried up.

The bus was returned to VIA transit.

Less than 10 people were on the bus at the time. Authorities confirmed that the eye irritation passengers endured was minor. They were treated on scene.

Hazmat tested the air as a precaution but said everything checked out okay.

One lane on Rittiman Road near JBSA-Fort Sam Houston was shut down but was reopened.
