SAN ANTONIO – Sheriff Javier Salazar announced the search for Andreen McDonald was finally over Saturday afternoon.

  • Remains were found on private property Thursday night
  • Bones were heavily bleached
  • Missing since March 1

“We found her,” Salazar said.

The bones that were discovered in an area located off Highway 281, several miles north of Loop 1604 on Thursday night were identified as Andreen McDonald, who had been missing since the end of February.

Salazar said a homeowner on the private property found the bones. He said the bones were heavily bleached by the sun and matched the nearly 130 days that Andreen McDonald had been missing.

“It was off the beaten path. This is a very desolate road to begin with, but then you add to that the remains were found about 20 yards deep on private property behind a fence and gate,” Salazar said on Friday. “It’s not a very accessible area. Someone would have to be looking for a spot.”

Salazar said the area near the property was searched before but they did not have access to the private land during those searches. Dozens of searches have happened since she was reported missing on March 1.

Her husband, Andre McDonald, an Air Force major, was arrested Saturday morning and charged with murder. His bail has been set at $2 million with various conditions, Salazar said.

He was originally arrested for tampering with evidence but later had his bail reduced and was put on house arrest. Throughout the investigation, police said he was uncooperative.

On Saturday afternoon, Salazar said was cooperating and was quiet.

The investigation is on-going.
