BEXAR COUNTY, Texas -- Police are pouring over an area where human remains were discovered Thursday night.

  • Human remains discovered Thursday night
  • Remains located in desolate area
  • Site was the scene of search for Andreen McDonald

The bones were discovered in an area located off Highway 281 and several miles north of Loop 1604.

Deputies confirmed that the remains, which include a skull and sun-bleached bones, are human. It hasn’t been determined if the remains are those of a man or a woman.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar characterized the discovery as suspicious.

“It was off the beaten path. This is a very desolate road to begin with, but then you add to that the remains were found about 20 yards deep  on private property behind a fence and gate,” Salazar said. “It’s not a very accessible area. Someone would have to be looking for a spot.”

Although there has been no identification, the site was among those heavily combed in the search for Andreen McDonald, the woman who went missing under suspicious circumstances at the end of February.
