  • Vigil held in Houston and San Antonio

Maleah Davis’s story captured the nation's attention when she went missing from Houston in May. After a month-long investigation her body was recently discovered in Arkansas.

People from Houston to San Antonio remembered Maleah by wearing her favorite color pink. A community vigil was held at San Pedro Springs Park in San Antonio.

The vigil was hosted by the local group King’s Angels. It is the same group that was created after the death of baby King Jay Davila. The infant died earlier this year while under the care of his mother’s boyfriend.

Houston police believe Maleah was killed by Derion Vence, who was engaged to her mother. Vence told an activist he disposed of her body in Arkansas.

"It really, really touched us because we are still mourning king jay right now and to know that another child that endure the trauma she endured it really filled our hearts with grief," said Jasmine Gill with King's Angels.

Stuffed animals were also collected at the vigil. They will be donated to local children in need.
