Their tales ran the gamut from triumphant to heartbreaking.

A portion of the proceeds from Listen to Your Mother benefit the children of Roy Maas Youth Alternatives.

"Everybody has one, everyone has a story of motherhood," said the show’s producer and director Jill Robbins. "They either have a mom, are a mom, want to be a mom or they don't want to be a mom."

Thirteen South-Central Texas women shared their stories. The stories covered topics like miscarriage, adoption, surrogacy, cancer, and poverty.

"My story is about a miscarriage that I had," said Michelle Lugalia-Hollon.

"Definitely was not anticipating losing a child. And that was shocking because once you get pregnant you do know that there's a chance," said Lugalia-Hollon. "It's a topic not many people talk about, but once you do have a miscarriage you learn how many other women around you actually have experienced one."

Lugalia-Hollon says it was a painful time, but writing down her story has helped her heal.

"I have a 5-month-old now and so it was a season in my life but it wasn’t a season that I stayed in and I'm grateful for that," said Lugalia-Hollon.

"Storytelling is at the heart of how we mother but it's also at the heart of how we pass on wisdom to other generations," said Lugalia-Hollon.

This Mother's Day, Lugalia-Hollon wants to remind others that no one is ever alone in their struggle.
