SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on the city’s East Side.
- One man died following officer-involved shooting
- Started as a robbery
- Shot at two officers
According to police, the incident started when a man robbed and shot someone at the intersection of Iowa and Pine streets. The suspect fled the scene in a black Honda Accord. Police were able to locate that vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop.
Police said the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Westfall and Pine. A man exited his car and started firing at police, striking a patrol car twice, once through the windshield and once through the passenger door.
When officers returned fire he was shot and taken to a local hospital. About 4:40 p.m. Monday afternoon, police reported the man was pronounced deceased at a hospital. On Tuesday, the deceased was identified as 17-year-old Jeremy Ponce.
A woman and a young child were also in the car but were not injured.
This marked the second officer-involved shooting in San Antonio in less than 12 hours. Early Monday morning, a man was shot and killed by police on the city's Northwest Side.
