SAN ANTONIO – Local agencies and organizations are teaming up to reach out to those who are living on San Antonio's streets.

  • Volunteers are counting city’s homeless population
  • Will determine what services they need
  • Also help them find shelter

Each year, hundreds of people head out to different parts of the country to take part in what is called the “Point-In-Time” count. Volunteers go out searching for people who have no place to go, and help them find a temporary shelter.

The volunteers will keep count of each person they encounter. They will offer services, food, and personal hygiene kits.

The group will get to know the community, and use the information they gather to better the services being offered by the city.

Endeavors Veteran Services case workers will meet Thursday morning to begin the count.

Volunteers for the county-wide count will meet at the TriPoint - A Center for Life, located at 3233 N St. Mary’s St at 5 p.m. The teams will depart at 6 p.m.

The downtown count team will gather at 9 p.m. and depart at 9:45 p.m.

Last year, more than 3,000 people experiencing homelessness were counted in San Antonio; of those, 522 were children.
